Timothy Haggerty Ph.D. | |
|
Besides designing and directing the curriculum in the Humanities Scholars Program, Dr. Haggerty is actively involved in fundraising at the University. Under his leadership, the program has received endowments from the Arthur Vining Davis Foundations, the Giant Eagle Foundation and several individual donors, helping expand the role of the humanities at the university. As an educational consultant, he is particularly concerned with facilitating wider access to higher education for minority students, and has acted as an analyst with Saad & Shaw since 2010. Prior to joining the firm, he also acted as an analyst for the State of Missouri Department of Education, a Research Associate for the Department of Justice, as well as a consultant for several private firms.
Dr. Haggerty draws upon an educational background that emphasizes the utilization of both quantitative and qualitative data analysis. His dissertation examined the shifting nature of veteran disability in the 19th century, and “Good and Valiant Soldiers: Civil War Service and the Life Course in Western Pennsylvania” was awarded a Harry Frank Guggenheim Dissertation Fellowship. His scholarly work has appeared in the Journal of Social History, the American Historical Review, and the Annual Review of Sociology. He has also acted as a reviewer for several scholarly journals.
Using both his scholarly work and his consulting expertise in the shifting relationship between minority populations and the body politic, Dr. Haggerty’s analysis and opinion have drawn wide attention: he has been cited by several national new organizations, including The Washington Post, The Christian Science Monitor, and The Village Voice, along with local print and radio outlets in the Pittsburgh region.
Prior to obtaining his doctorate, Dr. Haggerty received his A.B. and Masters of City Planning from the University of California. While practicing in the Bay Area, he acted as a Program Planning Evaluator and Consultant with the University of California and BPA, a consulting firm that specialized in the evaluation of social services for the disabled. |
