Ten Things You Need to Know When Selecting Fundraising Software.
How do you choose a donor database that will support successful fundraising? The software is only half the story. Fundraising technology strategist Robert Weiner addresses ten common mistakes that can prevent you from selecting the right database and managing it effectively. The software tool itself is only half the story—the other half lies in understanding what you need, and then following through.

FUNdraising Good Times Articles. This month we have three articles that answer your fundraising questions.  Learn when to fundraise, the secrets of sponsorship and just how much you can ask for.

When is the Right Time to Fundraise? – Learn the answer to this common question. And learn the important role of your case for support. What are you raising money for? Will people give during challenging economic times?

Sponsorship, Sponsorship, Sponsorship. - It’s all about partnering. What does your institution have to offer that will help a sponsor meet their business objectives? What is your brand? Learn the seven things to consider as you evaluate and grow your sponsorship program.

Can You Really Ask for That? – Large gifts typically don’t appear from out of the blue. Learn about the $100 Million transformational gift made by Wall Street financier Stephen Schwarzman to the New York Public Library.

New and Returning Clients:

Allen Temple Baptist Church. Oakland’s largest and most progressive Baptist church headed by nationally renowned Pastor J. Alfred Smith Sr. has asked Saad & Shaw to design a campaign plan to guide the church’s upcoming $5million capital campaign.

National Higher Education Recruitment Consortium.  After conducting a workshop for the board, the national HERC asked Saad & Shaw to work with the consortium’s leadership to create a Sponsorship and Partnership Plan. The national HERC supports the recruitment efforts of leading colleges and universities across the country.

Charles P. Foster Foundation.  Preparing for the launch of a San Francisco Bay Area Father Figure and Role Model Recruitment Campaign includes testing the marketplace and Foundation CEO Vernon Foster has asked Saad & Shaw to do just that with a feasibility study to support this critical work.

Cedar Valley Community College.
This Dallas Texas community college has chosen to work with Saad & Shaw as it develops a comprehensive fund development program.

Corporate Partnership.
How did Lincoln Child Center of Oakland, CA get a promotional movie made? Through partnership. When the organization needed to build a new playground the employees of FedEx stepped up. While the playground had been donated it was 150 FedEx employees who worked with staff members over three days to put it together. Not only that, but they donated computers and created a video documenting the process. “When FedEx saw we had a need they decided they wanted to fill that need,” said Executive Director Chris Stoner Mertz. This project is a great example of how a corporate partnership benefits both the corporation and the non-profit. We urge our readers to think about creative ways to engage your corporate neighbors. A Little Bit of Military History.  Honor the servicemen who gave their lives during the worst war-related disaster in the United States during World War II. A July 19th remembrance event will be held at Port Chicago to honor the hundreds of servicemen who were killed by a devastating explosion at the Navy ammunition loading base in the San Francisco Bay Area. Most of those who died were young African American sailors, serving in a segregated Navy that showed little concern for proper training or their safety. The quest for justice for the survivors drew national attention and led to the process of desegregating the armed forces. Learn more. Call Rev. Diana McDaniel at (510) 483-2132 for more information on the July 19th event.
